What are Stonehenge’s hours of operation?

Should I book Stonehenge tickets in advance?

It is recommended to book your tickets before the day, as they only release a few tickets on the day and these can often go very quickly. Also, by pre-booking tours, you can get a discount and you can cancel up to 24 hours in advance for a full refund.

How much does it cost to visit Stonehenge?

The current entrance fee cost on the day for an Adult is £21.20, Child (5 to 17 years) £12.70, Student/Senior £19.00 or a family ticket is £54.90. However, there are discounts available by pre-booking entrance – or you can book guided Stonehenge tours from £54 for an adult or £49 for a child.

How do I get to Stonehenge from London?

You can reach Stonehenge from London by car on the A303 from London (90 mins), you could also take a train from London to Salisbury and then take a bus from the station(2 hours 30 mins). Or you could take one of the many organised tours from London (90 mins). For more information click here.

How much is a train ticket to Stonehenge?

A train ticket from London Waterloo to Salisbury Station for 1 person is approximately £35, and for a family of 4, you would be looking at £130 for a day return ticket for all. The journey time is 1 hour and 32 minutes and this is based on a standard ticket.

Can you just walk up to Stonehenge?

No, you cannot just walk up to the stones. You can get within 10 yards of the stones on the regular entrance or access tours, however, if you want to get up close and touch the stones you would need to book on one of the early more or late evening private access visits.

Can you visit Stonehenge for free?

Yes, you can see Stonehenge for free from quite a distance back (it is not hidden from view) – however, if you want to get up to within 10 yards of Stonehenge then you will need to purchase visitor Stonehenge tickets.

What does a Stonehenge ticket get me?

A ticket to Stonehenge gives you access to within 10 yards of the Stones. It also gives you a shuttle bus transport to the Stones which is approx 1 mile away as well as access to the award-winning visitor centre.

What is a special access visit to Stonehenge?

A special access visit has to be pre-booked and they happen first thing in the morning or the last thing in the evening when all other visitors have left, these tours are smaller, more expensive but mean you can get up close to the stones which you cannot on normal access visits.

How long can I stay at Stonehenge?

You are not limited on the amount of time you can spend at Stonehenge, the general recommendation is to spend at least 2 hours there to make the most of the attraction. However, some spend just 45 minutes and others spend a whole day to really immerse themselves in the history of Stonehenge.

Are dogs allowed at Stonehenge?

Dogs are not allowed in the field where the Stones are located as Stonehenge is protected by the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Areas Act 1979. Dogs are allowed in the visitor centre and around the area, but they are not allowed on the shuttle bus to the Stones. You can walk your dog up to the field where the Stones are located, you just cannot take your dog into the field.
